Successful closure of GYORSÍTÓSÁV project

Budapest, June 30, 2025 – I4P Informatikai Kft (i4p) is working on encryption solutions that cannot be cracked even with quantum computers, now or in the future. The first solutions, including a data protection platform, a mobile application and encryption algorithms, have already become available. The project number 2021-1.1.4-GYORSÍTÓSÁV-2022-00037 was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation from the National Research Development and Innovation Fund, financed by the 2021-1.1.4-GYORSÍTÓSÁV application program.

These solutions are needed because within a few years, quantum computers with such powerful computing power will become available that they can crack the currently widespread traditional public-key cryptographic algorithms in minutes. It is worth starting to prepare for the “post-quantum era” now, warn many security and cryptography experts, including the head of the cryptography group at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) . It is recommended to use special encryption methods that are resistant to quantum computers.

That is why i4p has developed a special data protection service that is protected by both post-quantum algorithms, which provide a level of security that exceeds traditional cryptographic applications, and multi-party computation (MPC) solutions, which are the company’s special field. The data protection platform provides its users with extremely strong control over their protected data, even in cases where their data is stored by the data processors themselves (encrypted, of course). Even if an organization stores the user’s personal data encrypted (with a post-quantum algorithm, of course); it cannot access it until the user concerned decides to do so and participates in decrypting the data. This contribution is a cryptographic partial calculation that can be performed with a mobile application.

The data protection service, developed during a long and complex development process, includes the following elements:

– a post-quantum data protection platform that can serve multiple clients simultaneously as a highly available service in a cloud-based, multi-tenant environment. It also efficiently manages the mobile applications of client users, such as corporate employees or patients at healthcare institutions, supporting the computing tasks required to decrypt.

– post-quantum encryption white label mobile application that performs the user’s part of the multi-party calculations (after the user’s consent). End users only have full control over their data stored elsewhere if they have a constantly accessible device capable of performing the computing tasks. A white label mobile application has been created for this, which can be customized to the customers’ own image. For those who have their own development capacity, an embeddable version is also available in the form of an SDK (software development kit) instead of customization.

Since multi-party calculations based on bit operations are generally slow, it has required significant research and energy investment to create algorithms that provide adequate speeds in practice.

The data protection service enables organizations to provide strong, quantum-proof protection for their users’ sensitive data. The solution enables companies to fully comply with the relevant requirements of the GDPR, including consent and purpose-based data processing and the right to be forgotten.
